Abstract
The article discusses the embroidered silk globes created by female students at Westtown School in the early nineteenth century. These globes were made as part of the girls' geography and astronomy lessons, combining their sewing skills with the study of the physical world. The globes, made of silk, linen, and raw wool, were marked with thread, ink, and watercolor to depict lines of longitude and latitude, constellations, and other geographical features. While there are more terrestrial globes than celestial globes still in existence, all of these embroidered globes serve as teaching objects and artifacts of historical significance.
