Abstract

The article explores Howard W. French's biography The Second Emancipation, which portrays Kwame Nkrumah's life and leadership as central to the rise of Pan-Africanism and global Black liberation during the post–World War II and early Cold War era. Topics include Nkrumah's political and intellectual development, the interconnection between African independence and the U.S. civil rights movement, and the challenges of implementing Pan-Africanist ideals amid domestic and international pressures.
