Abstract

This personal narrative recounts the author's lifelong aspiration to become a competitive runner inspired by the movie "Jim Thorpe, All-American." Despite early challenges such as attending a Catholic school without a track team, the author pursued running through university in the Philippines, benefiting from high-altitude training but facing setbacks in regional and national competitions. After moving to California, the author continued competing in various races for fifteen years, narrowly missing qualification for the Boston Marathon. Reflecting on these experiences in later life, the author acknowledges the physical limitations of aging while maintaining a lasting connection to their running dreams. [Extracted from the article]
