Abstract

The author offers insights on how novelist Franz Kafka managed to present the world through the eyes of a cockroach in his drawings that have been unseen until 2019 and published in 2022 by Yale University Press. Topics discussed include the way Kafka instructed author Max Brod to destroy all his unpublished works upon his death, the connection of these drawings to his 1915 book "The Metamorphosis," and the transformation of said book's protagonist into a cockroach.
