Abstract

The article focuses on Solomea Krushelnytska, a Ukrainian soprano of the early 20th century, whose pivotal role helped rescue Giacomo Puccini's opera *Madame Butterfly* after its initial failure in 1904. Despite the opera’s disastrous premiere at La Scala, Krushelnytska agreed to perform the lead role in its restaging at Teatro Grande in Brescia, contributing significantly to its subsequent success and international acclaim. Beyond her artistic achievements, she was a pioneering woman in a male-dominated field, inspiring feminists and artists worldwide. During World War II, she also protected the author’s family in Lviv and remained dedicated to her family until her death in 1952.
