Trail Graves and Caches: BODIES OR BOOTY?

Abstract

The article presents the discussion on curious situation resulted from overworked livestock pulling overweight wagons over long distances. Topics include necessary for emigrants to repeat this jettisoning process and also shorten wagon beds to reduce weight; and travelers in Turner & Allen's commercial "Pioneer Line" of 1849 were forced to leave much of their luggage on the plains.
