Abstract

(Bloomberg) -- A leaked defense ministry document said Austria's constitutional neutrality, which precludes membership in military alliances like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, exposes the country to strategic weakness. Should a conflict break out between an EU member state and Russia, the defense reports suggest Austria could still be obliged to engage its military based on mutual assistance clauses in the European Union's treaty. NATO-member Germany has painstakingly reassessed its post-WWII approach to military conflict and is now providing Ukraine with main battle tanks and other weapons. [Extracted from the article]
