Abstract
The article focuses on Tekαkαpimәk Contact Station in Maine, a unique space that integrates art, sovereignty, and the cultural heritage of the Wabanaki Nations—Maliseet, Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot. The building, designed collaboratively with Wabanaki artists and leaders, features elements such as a Penobscot Watershed Floor Map, woven copper ceilings, and clay tile murals that reflect the community's cultural narratives and practices. This contact station serves as a model for how institutions can honor Indigenous authority and storytelling, emphasizing the importance of cultural continuity and community engagement in its creation.
