Abstract
Martin Crusius, a Lutheran professor of Greek in 16th-century Germany, became a leading authority on Ottoman Greece without ever visiting the region. Through extensive research and interactions with Greek travelers, Crusius compiled a detailed record of Greek life under Ottoman rule. His work, largely forgotten until the 20th century, provided valuable insights into the culture, language, and religion of the Greeks during that period. Basileos Athanasiou Mystakides later drew attention to Crusius' archive as a significant source for Ottoman Greek history, highlighting Crusius' unique expertise despite never physically traveling to Greece.
