Abstract

The article focuses on how generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) can transform learning and development (L&D) by providing personalized, scalable human skills training. An experiment by the BCG Henderson Institute involving mid-career professionals demonstrated that gen AI-powered tutoring matched traditional classroom training in effectiveness while offering greater personalization, efficiency, and learner engagement, particularly in developing problem framing skills. The article highlights gen AI’s potential to address skill gaps among frontline workers, support culture change through personalized coaching, and build AI competence by enabling employees to collaborate effectively with gen AI tools. It concludes that investing in people’s development alongside AI technology is essential for realizing gen AI’s full value in the workplace.
