Abstract
This article explores the life and works of composer Gustav Holst, particularly focusing on his choral compositions. Holst's interests extended beyond English folksong to include Wagner, early music, and music from other cultures. Despite facing challenges and criticism, Holst's unique and idiosyncratic voice shines through in his compositions. The article highlights some of his notable works, such as "The Planets," "Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda," and "The Hymn of Jesus." It also mentions the recent recognition of his daughter, Imogen Holst, as a composer in her own right. [Extracted from the article]
