Abstract
Former Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi has been chosen as the leader of the opposition New Democratic Party in Alberta, Canada's oil-rich province. Nenshi aims to regain the popularity the NDP had under Rachel Notley, who ended the Progressive Conservatives' 44-year winning streak in 2015. In his victory speech, Nenshi criticized the leadership of United Conservative Party Premier Danielle Smith, highlighting concerns about political interference in civil services. Nenshi, the first Muslim mayor of a major Canadian city, won the leadership race with a record turnout and a large margin of victory. The next provincial election in Alberta is scheduled for October 2027. [Extracted from the article]
