Abstract
This article reviews a recording of Antonio Vivaldi's "4 Seasons" performed by Silvan Dezini and the Ostinato Ensemble, noting its relatively conservative interpretation compared to more flamboyant recent versions. Each concerto is preceded by a newly composed Prelude or Intermezzo by Swiss composer Fabian Müller, which features solo violin cadenzas with ensemble interjections and subtle thematic references but creates awkward transitions due to contrasting styles. The Ostinato Ensemble’s accompaniment is described as light, with the continuo section’s texture sometimes obscuring Vivaldi’s original cello details. The review ultimately recommends an alternative recording by Concerto Italiano for those seeking a preferred version. [Extracted from the article]
