Abstract

The article focuses on the contributions of Chinese laborers to the completion of the transcontinental railroad, commemorated during the 150th anniversary in 2019. Jo-Ann Wong, a descendant of Chinese railroad workers and member of the Chinese Railroad Workers Descendants Association, participated in the celebrations. It highlights the history of "paper sons," Chinese immigrants who entered the U.S. by claiming familial ties due to restrictive immigration laws, including Wong’s father, James Wong, who later opened a restaurant in Salt Lake City. In 2024, a monument honoring Chinese railroad workers was unveiled at the Utah State Capitol. [Extracted from the article]
