Abstract
The article focuses on the introduction of broad aviation safety legislation by the chair of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee in response to a tragic collision between an Army helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet that resulted in 67 fatalities. Senator Ted Cruz will present the proposal, which includes a requirement for the use of ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast) technology by U.S. Army helicopters operating near civilian aircraft and a review of helicopter flight routes nationwide. The proposal will be discussed during a three-day investigative hearing, with participation from National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
