Abstract

The article focuses on French composer Maurice Ravel's Bolero (1928 orchestral work), its early 1930 recordings, and the trombone solo interpretation by French trombonist André Lafosse. It examines Lafosse's use of glissandi, jazz-influenced performance practices, Ravel's notational intentions, and debunks historical myths surrounding French-American trombonist and composer Leo Arnaud.
