Abstract

The article focuses on the arrival and unveiling of the historic sword of Shrimant Raje Raghuji Bhonsle in Mumbai, organized by the Government of Maharashtra. The sword, notable for its intricate ornamentation and European-made blade, highlights the international arms trade in 18th-century India and is a rare example among medieval Maratha weapons. The ceremonial unveiling will be attended by various dignitaries, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and descendants of Bhonsle. An exhibition featuring the sword and insights into 12 heritage forts will take place from August 19 to August 25, 2025, at the PL Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, open to the public at no cost.
