Abstract
This article focuses on identifying predictors of diabetes and high diabetes risk among Vietnamese Americans through a cross-sectional study of 304 adults using validated PhenX Toolkit surveys. Key independent predictors included older age, higher body mass index (BMI), family history of diabetes, hypertension, and having two or more mental health concerns, while social factors such as immigration status, employment, and social support were not significant after adjustment. The study highlights the importance of culturally tailored interventions addressing modifiable factors like BMI and mental health to improve diabetes prevention and management in this underserved population. It also emphasizes the need for holistic, linguistically appropriate care models and interdisciplinary collaboration to address the complex biopsychosocial factors influencing diabetes outcomes among Vietnamese Americans.
