Abstract

The article discusses the struggles of the citizens of Mound Bayou, Mississippi for civil rights and economic empowerment during the Jim Crow era in 1887-1941. Also cited are the rallies organized by Doctor T. R. M. Howard's Regional Council of Negro Leadership in the early 1950s to end segregation and the black town movement aimed at ending worsening white oppression and promoting property ownership, self-government and entrepreneurship.
