Abstract

In the book "Cannibal Capitalism: How Our System Is Devouring Democracy, Care, and the Planet—and What We Can Do About It" by Nancy Fraser, the author argues that capitalism is a crisis-prone system that is cannibalizing the planet, democracy, and care. Fraser expands on Marx's understanding of capitalism and highlights its cannibalistic tendencies, including its exploitation of nature, expropriation of land and resources from marginalized communities, and devaluation of social reproduction and caregiving. She calls for a new kind of society, socialism, that prioritizes the nurturing of people, safeguarding of nature, and democratic self-rule over accumulation and growth. The book also discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of capitalism's cannibalizing dynamics. [Extracted from the article]
