Abstract
This article reviews a scholarly study that reinterprets the 1916 Easter Rising as a modern event interconnected with James Joyce's literary modernism, particularly his novel *Ulysses*. The author argues that Joyce's work, shaped by his Jesuit education, philosophical interests, and engagement with contemporary political and cultural contexts, reflects and helps to construct a revolutionary consciousness tied to the Irish revolution. The study explores Joyce's relationships, influences—including anti-colonial figures like Roger Casement and humanitarian Alice Stopford Green—and the broader intellectual milieu linking literary avant-garde and nationalist movements. It also highlights how *Ulysses* serves as a cultural map of Dublin and a symbolic act of nation-making, while acknowledging ongoing debates about the meaning and impact of the Irish revolution.
