Abstract
The article discusses the trial and execution of Cape rebel Izaak Liebenberg during the 1899-1902 Anglo-Boer War in South Africa. Topics explored include the way Liebenberg and his men managed to ambush British Army Lieutenant Leopold Nieumeyer in Aliwal North, the reported betrayal of Liebenberg by witnesses Tobias du Plessis and Frans Steenberg in his trial for the murder of Nieumeyer, and the imprisonment and execution of Liebenberg.
