Abstract

This article reviews *Constitutional Foundings in Northeast Asia*, a 2022 volume examining the constitutional origins of eight Northeast Asian jurisdictions shaped by shared histories of war and revolution. The book offers detailed, nuanced chapters on countries including South Korea, North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea, DPRK), China, Mongolia, Taiwan (Republic of China, ROC), Japan, Hong Kong, and Macao, highlighting their distinct constitutional developments and ongoing challenges. It emphasizes the interplay of historical trauma, political ideology, and foreign influence in shaping constitutional frameworks, while noting unresolved constitutional futures in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. The volume is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach and contribution to comparative constitutional studies in the region, despite limited gender diversity among contributors.
