Abstract
The article focuses on the ongoing armed violence and complex political dynamics in Papua, Indonesia, as of 2023. It highlights the unresolved conflict in regions such as Maybrat, Intan Jaya, Nduga, and Pegunungan Bintang, exacerbated by the actions of the West Papuan National Liberation Army (TPNPB) and the Indonesian military. Key issues include the establishment of the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) under the new Special Autonomy Law, human rights abuses, and the internal struggles within the United Liberation Movement of West Papua (ULMWP). The article also discusses the impact of state policies on Indigenous communities and the challenges faced by local leaders in advocating for Papuan rights amidst escalating violence and political repression.
