Abstract
The article focuses on safeguarding supervision as a specialized form of support for child and whanau nurses working with child protection concerns, aimed at reducing stress and burnout. Safeguarding supervision differs from clinical supervision by specifically addressing the complexities of child safety and requiring supervisors with expertise in safeguarding. It serves educational, administrative, and supportive functions, helping practitioners reflect on practice, manage emotional challenges, and make robust decisions to prevent harm. Organizational support, including training, protected time, and a culture valuing supervision, is essential for embedding safeguarding supervision effectively, which benefits practitioners, children, and families by improving decision-making and reducing compassion fatigue.
