Abstract

The article provides detailed reviews of recent recordings in organ and choral music, highlighting notable works and performers. It covers organ albums such as Hansjörg Albrecht’s transcription of Anton Bruckner’s Study Symphony, Robert Costin’s recital on the Sherborne Abbey organ, and Gail Archer’s exploration of contemporary Bulgarian organ music. Choral recordings reviewed include Bach’s Easter Oratorio by the Cantata Collective and Jessica Curry’s a cappella album Shielding Songs, which reflects on personal and collective grief during the pandemic. The article also praises historically informed performances of English pre-Restoration verse anthems and the innovative organ compositions of Calvin Hampton, emphasizing their significance within their respective musical contexts.
