Abstract
The article explores the philosophical paradox of identity through the lens of law firms, comparing them to the mythological ship of Theseus. It questions whether a law firm that has undergone significant changes—such as growth from 30 to over 1,000 lawyers, multiple mergers, and shifts in practice areas—remains the same entity. The author reflects on the evolving nature of law firms and the implications for partners who leave these firms, suggesting that the term "jumping ship" may not accurately capture the complexities of such departures, as the firms themselves may have transformed significantly over time.
