Abstract

The article reviews recent recordings of organ and choral music, focusing on performances that highlight historical instruments and composers. It discusses organ works by Marcel Dupré, Charles-Marie Widor, Jean-Jacques Grunenwald, and Daniel Roth played on the historic Saint-Sulpice organ, as well as recordings featuring the Kuhn organ in Lucerne and Richterswil. Choral recordings include Canadian composer Eleanor Daley’s sacred music, notably her Requiem, and a new contextual pairing of Mozart’s Requiem with Fazil Say’s Mozart & Mevlana, which incorporates Islamic mysticism and Turkish instruments. Additional reviews cover early works by Edward Elgar reflecting his Roman Catholic faith and a program of Orlando Gibbons’s sacred music performed with brass, noted for its historical interest despite some vocal inconsistencies.
