Abstract

This article focuses on a pilot study evaluating the feasibility and utility of the self-administered Language Acculturation Meter™ (LAM) in a clinical older adult population. The LAM, designed for native Spanish speakers bilingual in English, assesses language acculturation to aid neuropsychological test selection and interpretation. Sixteen Spanish-speaking older adults and their caregivers at Montefiore's Memory Disorders Centers completed the LAM, with some reporting difficulties understanding or relating to certain items. The study concludes that while the LAM is a validated interview tool, further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness as a self-report questionnaire in clinical settings involving older adults with cognitive complaints.
