Abstract
The article investigates the application of artificial intelligence (AI) by librarians to enhance service delivery in academic libraries of public universities in Imo State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey of 398 lecturers and undergraduate students across five universities, the study found a high and statistically significant level of AI use by librarians in improving information retrieval, cataloguing, and classification processes. AI technologies were reported to facilitate faster, more accurate access to information and more efficient organization of library materials, thereby improving overall library service delivery. The study recommends continued investment in AI tools and ongoing training for librarians to sustain and advance these improvements in academic libraries.
