Abstract

The article remembers the phrase cleanse the causeway in Scottish history wherein a battle took place in Scotland on April 30, 1520 between noblemen Earl of Arran James Hamilton and 6th Earl of Angus Archibald Douglas as they vied for supremacy after the death of King James IV. Topics include the implication of the death of James IV at the Battle of Flodden in 1513 for Scotland and his queen Margaret Tudor and an account of the events in the battle between the two noblemen and their clans.
