Abstract
The article focuses on the potential redeployment of U.S. nuclear weapons to the United Kingdom for the first time in 15 years, which would supplement the UK's existing arsenal of approximately 225 submarine-launched nuclear warheads. U.S. Air Force budget documents reveal plans to build a dormitory at Royal Air Force Lakenheath to accommodate personnel linked to a possible "Surety mission," a term related to nuclear weapon safety and security. This move has drawn criticism from Russia, which views it as an escalation amid heightened nuclear tensions in Europe. Analysts suggest the redeployment may be preparatory or linked to concerns about the safety of U.S. nuclear weapons currently stationed in Turkey. The arrival of new B61-12 gravity bombs and nuclear-capable F-35A jets at Lakenheath aligns with these developments.
