Abstract

The article recounts the work of Mexican American attorney Gus Garcia, focusing on his litigation of Hernandez v. Texas, wherein Mexican American migrant cotton picker Pete Hernandez was indicted for the murder of a cotton planter. It highlights the motions prepared by Garcia to quash the jury panel on Fourteenth Amendments grounds, his claim of systemic jury service exclusion and Mexican American representation, briefs and arguments on Equal Protection Clause, segregation and discrimination.
