Abstract
The article reports on the efforts by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) led by J. Edgar Hoover in the 1970s to campaign against alleged leftist Catholic priests and nuns like brother priests Philip and Daniel Berrigan. Also cited are the alleged plan of the Berrigans to kidnap National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and how Hoover's allegations changed the trajectory of antiwar politics and twentieth-century Catholic politics.
