Abstract
The article explores the forms and purpose of the Gothic revivalism by architect and designer Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. A background is provided on the early training of Pugin as a draftsman under his father's firm that led him to become a proponent of the Gothic style and prepared him for a design career. Focus is given on Pugin's commitment to traditional craft alongside the use of technology, his direct carving method and execution of embellishments and decorative elements.
