Abstract
The volume "Ciceros Topica und sein Programm De iure civili in artem redigeno" is a collection of seven essays based on an interdisciplinary seminar held in 2022, offering diverse perspectives on Cicero's *Topica*, a concise work on the methods of Roman jurists. The essays explore *Topica* as part of Cicero's broader, now-lost program *De iure civili in artem redigendo* ("On Reducing Civil Law to an Art"), focusing on argument invention (inventio) and evaluation within legal rhetoric, and its relation to contemporary legal practice and philosophy. Contributors analyze Cicero's use of juristic examples, his methodological approach compared to other Roman jurists like Gaius, and the limited influence of *Topica* on later classical jurisprudence, noting a gap between Cicero's theoretical framework and practical legal developments. The volume concludes that while Cicero's work aimed to bridge philosophy and law, the scarcity of sources on Roman legal methodology leaves many questions open, highlighting the need for further interdisciplinary research.
