Abstract
The article focuses on the disruption of African copper shipments to China due to the temporary closure of the Port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, which is a key export hub for copper and cobalt from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. The closure, prompted by election unrest, has led traders and producers to seek alternative routes, causing congestion at other ports such as Durban in South Africa. Approximately two-thirds of African copper shipments to China typically pass through Dar es Salaam, and the logistics firm C Steinweg Group has announced that its facilities at the port will remain closed at least until Friday. Traders are optimistic that the disruptions will be brief but are already rerouting shipments to other ports, including Walvis Bay in Namibia and Beira in Mozambique. [Extracted from the article]
