Abstract

This article investigates the moderating role of accountability partners in the relationship between Radio Biafra broadcasts and participation in activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) among residents of South-East Nigeria. Using a survey of 470 participants, the study found that accountability partners contribute 35% to predicting participation in IPOB activities, slightly more than Radio Biafra's 32%, with online accountability partners exerting greater influence (23%) than offline ones (12%). The research also highlights that licensed traditional media in Nigeria, such as radio, television, and newspapers, may unintentionally promote IPOB activities by disseminating related information. The findings are framed within the Theory of Planned Behaviour, emphasizing the importance of subjective norms and social interactions in shaping behavior during secessionist agitations.
