Abstract

The article reexamines the rise and decline of Taiwan's Lanling Theatre Workshop, arguing that while Hezhu's New Match (1980) symbolized a cultural shift from propaganda drama, its artistic merit and the group's quiet dissolution remain underexplored. Topics include Taiwan's post-Cold War theatrical identity crisis, Western influences—especially Grotowski's methods—and the transformation from spoken to physical theatre.
