Abstract

The article focuses on the historic 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP), which marked the first docking of American and Soviet space vehicles during the Cold War, symbolizing a significant moment of U.S.-Soviet cooperation in space exploration. The mission involved overcoming numerous engineering and political challenges, including differing spacecraft designs and environmental systems, as well as language barriers between the crews. During their joint mission, the astronauts and cosmonauts conducted scientific experiments and developed close personal bonds. The article also notes the subsequent decline of U.S.-Russian space collaboration, highlighting budget cuts to NASA and the planned end of the International Space Station by 2031.
