Abstract

The article focuses on the Battle of Cowpens, a significant engagement during the American Revolution fought on January 17, 1781, in South Carolina. The battle featured American Brigadier General Daniel Morgan leading a force of approximately 1,800 militia and Continentals against British Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton's 1,200 troops. Morgan's unconventional tactics, including a strategic retreat that lured the British into a vulnerable position, ultimately led to a decisive American victory, resulting in heavy British casualties and the capture of many soldiers. This victory, along with the earlier defeat at King's Mountain, forced British General Cornwallis to reconsider his military strategy in the southern campaign. [Extracted from the article]
