Abstract

A recent discovery in southern Mexico has revealed a massive Maya city called Valeriana, which may have served as a political capital over 1,500 years ago. Using lidar technology, researchers were able to map out the city's temple pyramids, water reservoirs, and plazas, indicating a densely populated urban center. This finding sheds light on the ancient Maya civilization's settlement patterns and highlights the value of lidar data in archaeological research. [Extracted from the article]
