Abstract

In the summer of 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, then governor of New York, faced a dilemma. He needed the support of Tammany Hall, the corrupt political machine that ruled New York City, to win his home state and secure the presidential nomination. However, an investigation led by Judge Samuel Seabury uncovered a conspiracy to frame innocent women for prostitution and a million-dollar slush fund controlled by the mayor, Jimmy Walker. Despite conflicting advice, Roosevelt ultimately held hearings that led to Walker's resignation as mayor, effectively ending the inquiry. [Extracted from the article]
