Abstract

The article focuses on the significance of the Petros G. Pelos Collection, a donation of over one hundred rare historical materials to the Oregon Historical Society that challenges traditional narratives of the American West. Topics include the role of early modern science and cartography in shaping imperial expansion, the ethnographic portrayal of Indigenous peoples, and the archival evidence of failed colonization schemes that puncture the myth of Manifest Destiny.
