Abstract
Franck Biyong, a Cameroonian musician, has created his own unique sound called "Afrolectric" as a response to his frustration with the state of popular African music. He aims to break down the barrier between African music and the mainstream. Biyong pays homage to African music pioneers such as Le Grand Kallé, Fela Kuti, and Manu Dibango in his latest album, Radio Masoda. The album features a fusion of various genres, including rumba, Afrobeat, jùjú, highlife, and soukous, with Biyong's signature Afrolectric groove. He hopes to inspire listeners to continue exploring African music as it evolves and changes. Biyong also discusses the need to honor and recognize the contributions of African musicians and create a more collective approach to music. He plans to bring his band, Afrobrainz, to Europe for a festival and hopes to release a live album and studio production in the future. [Extracted from the article]
