Abstract

In 1915, Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, sank in the Weddell Sea during an Antarctic expedition. After 107 years, in 2022, a team of explorers funded by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust located and studied the ship using modern technology, including underwater robots and sonar. Despite being 3,008 meters below the surface, the Endurance remains relatively intact due to the cold, low-oxygen environment of the Weddell Sea, preserving details such as the ship's flare gun, dinner plates, and intact bow.
