Abstract

This article focuses on Idris Bitlisi, a Kurdish-Iranian historian and statesman in the Ottoman Empire, highlighting his significant influence on Ottoman historiography through his Persian-language work *Hasht Bihisht* (Eight Heavens). Commissioned by Sultan Bayezid II, Bitlisi’s history of the Ottoman dynasty from Osman I to Bayezid II introduced Iranian historiographical methods and literary style to Anatolia, marking a Golden Period in Ottoman historical writing. Bitlisi’s career spanned service under multiple rulers, during which he also played key political and administrative roles, notably in integrating Kurdish regions into the Ottoman realm. His diverse scholarly output in Persian, Arabic, and Turkish reflects the cultural and intellectual exchanges between Iran and the Ottoman Empire in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
