Abstract

This article reviews an edited collection focused on the legacy and identity of the Covenanters, a Scottish religious and political movement. The volume is organized into three thematic sections—loyalty, identity and self-fashioning, and memory—exploring oath-taking, competing loyalties, cultural identity, and the movement’s historical memory. Contributions from both established and early-career historians provide diverse perspectives, though the collection is noted for its predominantly male authorship. The essays address local and national contexts, including the impact on Scottish universities and Restoration Scotland, offering valuable insights for researchers interested in religious identity, political allegiance, and historical memory within the Covenanting tradition.
