Abstract

This article explores the origins of the Draper Corporation and the 1913 Hopedale Strike in Hopedale, Massachusetts. The strike, led by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), targeted the Draper Corporation and its owner, Eben S. Draper. The strike lasted several months but ultimately ended in failure. The article discusses the history of the Draper Company, its impact on Hopedale, and the strike in the context of the town's utopian beginnings and radical labor activism. It also provides information on the demographics and housing conditions in Hopedale and Milford in 1915, as well as differing views on Eben Draper's stance on labor issues. The text concludes by mentioning the recent demolition of the Draper factory and the remaining reminders of its past. [Extracted from the article]
