Abstract
A recent study conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital examined the characteristics of individuals who affiliate with different mutual-help organizations (MHOs) for alcohol use disorder (AUD) recovery. The study compared participants who chose Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), both, or neither. The findings revealed that SMART-only participants were more likely to be White, married, have higher income and education, and have lower clinical severity and legal involvement compared to AA-only or Both participants. The study suggests that SMART Recovery may attract individuals with greater psychosocial stability and economic advantage. This research provides valuable insights into the different pathways individuals choose for AUD recovery. [Extracted from the article]
